BetaList alternative
BetaList is a curated, paid, editorially reviewed feed of early-stage startups — and those three properties are exactly what people are usually trying to avoid when they search for an alternative. Paying to be considered is a real cost even when rejections are refunded, and an editorial gate means your launch date is not yours.
LetsLaunch charges nothing to submit and has no editor. What replaces the editor is a badge check and a vote threshold.
BetaList is a long-running discovery site for pre-launch and just-launched startups, published as a daily feed with an email newsletter attached. Submission is paid and editorially reviewed: the team screens for a clear value proposition and a real custom domain, and rejected submissions are refunded in full. A maker who gets through receives a permanent listing page, newsletter exposure, and a burst of early-adopter signups.
Its plans and prices are shown at the end of the submission form, with faster featuring and guaranteed newsletter inclusion costing more. It is a genuinely curated audience of early adopters, which is a real thing to be buying.
Mechanics, side by side. Everything in the BetaList column comes from their own pricing and submission pages; where we could not confirm something, the cell says so.
| LetsLaunch | BetaList | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost to submit | Free, permanently. Paid tiers add placement and remove badge upkeep. | Paid only; no free tier. Rejected submissions refunded. |
| Review | Automatic. A reciprocal badge on your own site publishes the listing — no editor, no queue. | Manual editorial review against a quality bar |
| Timing | You control it — the badge check publishes you | Editorial schedule; faster featuring costs more |
| Best fit | A working product people can try today | Pre-launch and just-launched, waitlists included |
| Newsletter | Weekly digest, not sold as a placement | Email newsletter, with guaranteed inclusion available paid |
| Outbound link | Dofollow while the badge is installed; permanent on Premium. Never sold. | See the link check below — measured, not asserted |
| Staying listed | 5 upvotes in 24 hours or the listing is hidden from browse, with one free relaunch. | Listing is permanent once published |
| After the feed | Weekly board, permanent week archive, category boards, directory views, compare and alternatives pages. | Permanent listing page in their archive |
The rule: a published listing has 24 hours from launch to collect 5 qualifying upvotes. Clear it and the listing and its followed link are permanent. Miss it and the listing is hidden from browse and its outbound link drops to nofollow — nothing is deleted, and you get one free relaunch. While LetsLaunch is still building up daily volume this rule is paused, so no listing is currently removed for missing the threshold.
Not a claim — a fetch, with the page we read it from.
We confirmed a followed outbound link on BetaList.
We fetched a real listing page on betalist.com and read the rel attribute on its outbound link, rather than repeating what their marketing says. Last checked September 1, 2026.

For most products these are not mutually exclusive. Launch week has room for more than one board, and neither platform asks for exclusivity.
Both models are defensible and they fail in different ways. Paid curation filters for people willing to spend money, which correlates with seriousness but also with being funded. A mechanical gate filters for people willing to put a link on their own site and find a handful of real supporters, which correlates with having users.
What paid curation cannot do is scale its judgement transparently. You do not get to read the rule that rejected you. Our rules are two sentences long and they are on the how-it-works page: a reciprocal badge publishes the listing, and 5 upvotes in 24 hours keeps it.
What the mechanical gate cannot do is guarantee an audience. BetaList's newsletter is a real distribution channel that you are paying for; here you are given a board and expected to bring the first few voters yourself. That is a genuine trade-off and not one where we win on every axis.
If you are pre-launch with nothing usable behind the URL, be aware the survival rule applies to you like everyone else, and a waitlist page tends not to find votes. That is a case where BetaList is simply the better fit.
Free, no editorial gate, and a followed link you earn rather than buy.
